The Breath Test Result May Be Overstated Because
The Test Was Given While Your Body Was Still Absorbing Alcohol
There is no
test, not even a blood test, which actually looks at the blood and measures the
level of alcohol actually in the blood.
All alcohol tests are indirect measurements. A breath test measures alcohol in the lungs
and uses a complex equation to make an estimation of the BAC. When alcohol first enters the blood stream
during absorption, the alcohol has not distributed through the circulatory
system. A reading in one area may be overstated
for this reason. Think of it is chlorine
being poured into a pool. At the
beginning, some parts of the pool near to where the chlorine is being poured
will have a higher level of chlorine than other parts of the pool where the
chlorine has not reached. The same is true
with alcohol entering your system.
